- 6-12 months

The work KITAS is issued for a specific position at a specific Indonesian company. The key difference from the other types: the applicant is effectively the employer, not you. The sponsoring company files the foreign worker plan, obtains the permit and carries responsibility for compliance.
From which follows the main practical constraint — the permit is tied to one employer. Changing jobs means starting again: the old permit is cancelled and a new sponsor arranges a new one. You cannot resign and coast out the year on it.
Not every position qualifies either. Some roles are closed to foreigners, and your qualifications must match the role claimed. That gets checked before the company starts filing, not after a refusal.
A separate cost line is the monthly foreign worker levy paid by the employer. It is substantial, and it is why business owners holding shares in a company usually take the investor KITAS instead: no levy, and twice the validity.

Common questions
Can I change employer?
Not without re-applying. The KITAS is tied to a specific company and role; when you change jobs the old permit is cancelled and the new employer arranges everything from scratch.
Who pays for it?
Sponsor obligations, including the monthly foreign worker levy, sit with the company. How that is shared between you and the employer is a matter of agreement, but the company answers to the state.
Can I take side work?
No. The permit covers a specific role with a specific employer, and work outside it breaches your conditions of stay.
Can I bring my family?
Yes, a spouse and minor children apply as dependants on a dependent KITAS.
What if the company ceases to exist?
The basis for the permit disappears with the sponsor. Act immediately — either find a new employer or change permit type.
