KITAP is a permanent stay permit. It is issued for five years and renewed, and in substance it removes the main friction of life on a KITAS: the annual scramble to renew and the dependence on your basis continuing to hold.

The principal route to it is several consecutive years of residence on a KITAS. The operative word is consecutive: gaps in status wipe out the accumulated record, and someone who once dropped onto a visit visa for a couple of months discovers this years later, while applying for KITAP.

That is why we press so hard on starting renewals 60 days early. It is not about convenience — every gap costs you years of accrued record.

For spouses of Indonesian citizens the route is shorter: marriage gives the fastest path to permanent status.

The practical difference is real. KITAP removes the annual administration, simplifies banking and property matters, and makes your position in the country fundamentally more secure.

Common questions

What counts as a gap in status?

Any period without a valid KITAS, including where a renewal was filed late and you had to leave. Such a gap wipes out the accumulated record.

How many years do I need?

The required period depends on the basis of your KITAS. For spouses of Indonesian citizens it is shorter. We calculate it individually from your history.

Does KITAP confer the right to work?

Conditions on employment depend on the underlying basis. Permanent status by itself does not replace a work permit where one is required.

Does KITAP need renewing?

Yes, it is issued for five years and renewed. But that is not comparable to the annual cycle on a KITAS.
